"When I first heard I was going to be creating VIN numbers I was very intimidated. As soon as we received the Fed Cert program and saw its capabilities I was relieved. The program is so easy. Just fill in the blanks and it does all the work. I love it!"

Money paper vs. security paper certificates of origin

Individual states decide what type of certificates of origin (MSO's) they will accept.

Some states follow the rigorous AAMVA recommendations (American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators). These states require residents to submit 'money paper' MSO's to the department of motor vehicles. Several states included in this group are New York, Florida, and Kansas.

Other states have adopted less stringent standards and only require residents to submit 'security paper' MSO's. Several states included in this group are Georgia and Nevada.

If you sell trailers nationally, printing all of your MSO's on

'money paper' will simplify your paperwork. If you sell regionally or locally, you may be able to use 'security paper' MSO's if that is all your state requires.

Contact the state DMV to find out what the regulations are in your area.
